About the profession
The residency programme is aimed at the acquisition of professional competences in providing emergency or planned assistance to patients with injuries or the ones who suffer from a variety of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, fixation of fractures, correction of aging soft-tissue and bone defects of joints and limbs. In addition to the work with ligaments, tendons, bones, muscles, nerves, a traumatologist also influences the whole organism by means of thermal, chemical, electrical, mechanical, radioactive and other factors.
The educational residency programme "Traumatology and orthopedics" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of the treatment of traumas and illnesses related to the musculoskeletal system, for independent work in public health institutions or for private practice. Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow carrying out medical activities.
Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.
A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in injury care centers, public hospitals, private clinics, secondary medical schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative-diagnostic centers. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Traumatology and orthopedics”.
