About the profession
The profession of a legal scholar is a profession of a person possessing intelligence and knowledge to develop concepts of institutional reform; to develop models of legal policy followed by their analytical and normal support. This is a person capable of acting in extraordinary situations, where there are no standard solutions, studied and tested well ahead of time. Such a lawyer is in demand everywhere: starting from the system of legal education to public service. Professors lecturing in the program lay the foundations for developing this kind of lawyer. Legal profession means work using the knowledge of administrative, business, commercial, civil, labour, financial legislation; arbitration, procedural law, civil procedure and basis aspects of criminal procedure law. In this work a lawyer applies skills in the basics of administration, management of legal records with the help of modern information technologies; as well as the knowledge of ethics in business communication, organization of labour and management.
Postgraduate students study the problems of methodology of legal science, philosophy and sociology of law, legal comparison, the history of law and state in Russia and abroad; doctrinal, dogmatic and practical jurisprudence. Under the programme postgraduates acquire research skills and the skills of teaching Law.
Of no less importance are disciplines such as: English, Pedagogy, History and Philosophy of Science.
The research part of the program includes the subject and the method of history of law and state, and the history of state and law doctrine, theory of law and state; methodological research of historical and theoretical study of law and state, state and law. The postgraduate program incorporates the following disciplines:

- Theory and History of Law and State, History of law and State Doctrine
- Case Studies in Law
- Contemporary Doctrines of Law and State
Practical training: Practical training is a mandatory component of the post-graduate curriculum. It consists in such practical activities such as teaching certain subjects, class activity management, scientific and methodical work on a subject, and acquisition of necessary teaching skills. The aim of teaching practicum is the study of basics of pedagogical, educational and methodical work at the institutions of higher education; mastering teaching skills in conducting classes on various subjects from the specialization curriculum. The main objective of teaching practicum is to show the results of comprehensive psychological, pedagogical, socio-economic and IT readiness of a post-graduate for teaching activities. Besides, post-graduates have access to fieldwork in government agencies, Russian and international companies.
The profound knowledge and research experience gained during the postgraduate course allow our alumni to conduct further research in constitutional law, comparative law as well as other branches of legal science. Alumni of the Institute of Law have an opportunity to do the analytical work in government entities, including the federal ones (the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation etc.), in large law offices, international organizations, as well as continue scientific and educational activities both at Russian and foreign universities.
While studying for my Master’s Degree, I already knew I would go on to the postgraduate course at the Institute of Law of RUDN University. The Department of Theory of Law and State has true professionals on its staff, that are competent educators, who are ready to share their knowledge and experience. One of the greatest assets of doing the postgraduate course is the teaching practicum – an opportunity to teach your favourite subject to students. Needless to say, we are very grateful to our professors for the help we got whenever we needed it. Every professor has a unique approach to students which turns the educational process into interesting and fascinating activity. I hope that after defending my thesis, I will be able to continue teaching and move forward.
The latest reforms concerning postgraduate course which proclaimed it the third stage in education lead to fundamental changes in relations between postgraduate students and “the other world” Certainly, many universities trying to follow a trend of improving conditions for postgraduates, started introducing many various innovations with the aim to develop personal and professional prospects for postgraduate students. Studying at postgraduate course of RUDN University, brought me to the conclusion that we have all the necessary conditions to able to conduct real scientific research. I am quite satisfied working together with my academic adviser; and with the fact that we're trusted to conduct classes. I plan to continue teaching in the future, and it’s important for me to gain experience in this sphere. Undoubtedly, a great advantage for me is access to libraries of other foreign universities through the library of RUDN University.
