About the profession
Sociology today is an actively developing discipline, the mastery of which at the highest level gives the skills of analyzing the widest range of social problems, which, in turn, makes PhD graduates in sociological sciences unique and sought-after experts in various spheres of social life.
The structure of the postgraduate programme includes the compulsory (basic) and optional parts. This provides the opportunity to implement several profiles of postgraduate programmes with different specializations, within the framework of one field of study.
Already in the first year of study, students are intensively immersed in the profession. Students study the full range of integrated marketing communications, the current state of the market of communication services in Russia and abroad, strategies and technologies of shaping public opinion, image and reputation, the secrets of election campaigns, crisis management, Internet promotion tools.
"Methodology and methods of sociological research", "Conceptual and categorical framework of sociology of management", "Sociological methods in the practice of organization management", "History and philosophy of science", "Higher education pedagogy", "Scientific research methodology", "Research seminar", "Modern sociological theories", "Ethics", etc.
Postgraduate students undertake the internship at the profession-oriented (department) of RUDN University (including the compulsory teaching internship) and in partner organizations. Postgraduate internships are held in cooperation with the leading scientific (Federal Research Sociological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Institute of Sociology of the RAS), the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center, TNS, GFK) and other research organizations of the Russian Federation.
The combination of the practical and theoretical orientation of training, implemented in the educational process, gives graduates the opportunity to acquire competences that allow conducting all activities related to social processes and structures at macro and micro levels. The professional activity of graduates is connected with research work, production-applied activities, educational, information and consulting work. Special competences and skills of a highly qualified sociologist provide an opportunity to work in the field of project, organizational-managerial and teaching activities.
The professional activity of graduates takes place in:
- bodies of state and municipal government;
- general and professional education institutions;
- academic and other research centers;
- marketing services, personnel management services;
- public opinion research centers;
- analytical and administrative-managerial subdivisions of commercial and non-commercial organizations, mass media, consulting services, institutions of science, culture, healthcare, education, etc.
