About the Profession
Over the centuries philosophy has played a primary role in the formation of political ideologies and social concepts, in the comprehension of different paradigms, in the development of the principles of tolerance, liberalism and democracy, which are the base of modern developed societies.
Nowadays the philosopher has the opportunity to choose from a large scope of activities. Skills and abilities got during the studies: the ability to comprehend and analyse social problems and processes in the modern world; the ability to create, competently formulate and defend one’s own position on topical social, economic, political and spiritual issues; the ability to work with texts of different periods and varying difficulty level.
Mastering the course students acquire basic knowledge on the history of the development of philosophical thought from Antiquity to the present day. Special philosophical disciplines: ontology, social philosophy, ethics, philosophy of religion are being taught. There is an opportunity to attend various elective advanced courses in selected subjects.
Particular attention is given to mastering foreign languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic). There is a possibility to obtain additional certificates and diplomas of an interpreter and a translator-referent.
During the studies students have an opportunity to take part in the scientific life of the faculty: to present their reports at ongoing scientific conferences, to participate in the "Discussion Club for Students and Masters", to attend lectures given by visiting professors .
History of Foreign Philosophical Thought, History of Russian Philosophy, Ontology and Theory of Knowledge, Ethics, Aesthetic, Philosophy and Methodology of Science, Philosophy of Religion, Religious studies.
The programme provides for international internship all over the world. The last year of studies is devoted to the scientific and practical research within the chosen specialization, prepare and defend the thesis.
Teaching practice includes studying special course on teaching methods and teaching classes at leading Moscow schools. Some students have chance to undertake practical training at the profile department (the Chairs of Philosophy of RUDN) and at affiliate organizations.
