About the profession
A cardiologist performs diagnostics of diseases, prescribes various necessary tests and treatment. A cardiologist selects medicines for long-term use for patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease and other cardiac or vascular pathologies, makes regular appointments for a patient, evaluates the effectiveness of the therapy, performs diagnostic tests and, if necessary, changes the therapy regimen or refers a patient to the hospital, to a specialized cardiac recovery unit of therapeutic or surgical specialization.
The educational residency programme "Pediatric cardiology" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the provision of specialized medical assistance on the specialization, the organization of the treatment-diagnostic process (selection of treatment methods, diagnostics and provision of medicines to patients). Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow rendering curative services.
Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.
Primary-care outpatient pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists of cardiac recovery units of pediatric hospitals, cardiosurgical hospitals, sports treatment centers, health resorts, pediatric cardiologists in the general hospital staff of pediatric hospitals of any specialization.
