Legal regulations in energy-specific issues is very relevant nowadays. Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly in 2009 stressed the necessity of turning to a sustainable resource consumption pattern, introduction of most advanced energy technologies, ensuring a leading role in innovations both in traditional and alternative energy; as well as taking steps towards energy efficiency boosting.
The course is oriented to all-around training of top-notch specialists in energy law, who have profound knowledge in the sphere of legal regulation of various types of natural resources, and capable of independent research, teaching and practical activities.
Taking into account significance and strategic relevance of the tasks set by the President of the Russian Federation, an innovative course was devised. It gives a full picture of the role, significance and potential of energy law in modern society.
The curriculum comprises studying the most relevant aspects of contemporary energy law:
- fundamental principles of Russian and foreign energy legislation;
- protection of human rights and freedoms in respect of energy relations;
- energy strategy of the Russian Federation;
- energy security;
- public private partnership in FEC (fuel and energy complex);
- foreign trade and energy transit trade;
- environmental legal requirements in the Russian Federation energy sector.
Students of Master’s Degree program “Energy Law” traditionally undergo practical training on the basis of Department of Land and Environmental Law in the form of teaching practicum. Besides that practical training is arranged on the premises of large law firms, public authorities and oil and gas corporations.
Master's Degree Students undergo practical training in recognized Russian and foreign law firms, as well as in the companies which closely cooperate with teaching staff of the department. Among the prospective employers in Moscow are:

Having got Bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Law of RUDN University, I had no doubts whether to continue my education or not. Likewise, I had no doubts that I will continue education at RUDN University. The difficulty was in choosing a Master’s Degree program. Having analyzed the labour market demand, I made my choice in favour of the option which is at the moment short of high level specialists. Scientific papers concerning energy law are of high value, too, as there are many subjects which call for scientific approach.
