About the profession

Nowadays professional lawyers are in great demand. All branches of law are actively developing and the market requires highly trained professionals. The term ‘lawyer’ covers a wide spectrum of professions: attorney, judge, public prosecutor, notary, legal adviser, investigator. All of them have one thing in common: knowledge of laws and legal rules. A lawyer is a specialist who has all the necessary information concerning legislative framework. He collects factual and incriminating evidence, which enable him to arrive at a decision. This sphere is so wide that lawyers are classified according to the direction of their occupation. They work as defenders, prosecutors , experts, professors and judges.

Educational process

The educational postgraduate program “Criminal Law and Criminology; Criminal and Penal Law” provides profound specialized study of such branches of law as Criminal Law, Criminology, Criminal and Penal Law, which enables graduates to engage in successful research, educational and practical activities. This course implies participation in research projects. Research projects conducted at the university are under the supervision of leading experts (attorneys, prosecutors, judges).

Disciplines

The research part of the program consists in the scientific analysis of legal, organizational and methodological framework of criminal law, criminology, criminal and penal law in Russia and abroad, including those relevant for crime classification, counteracting crime, improving the efficiency of punishment; as well as elaboration of lawmaking.

Practical training

Practical training is a mandatory component of the post-graduate curriculum. It consists of practical activities of post-graduates such as the study of specific subjects, class activity management, scientific and methodical work on a subject, and acquisition of necessary teaching skills. The goal of a teaching practicum is the study of basic pedagogical, educational and methodical work at institutions of higher education; and mastering teaching skills for conducting classes on various subjects from the specialization curriculum. The main objective of teaching practicum is to show the results of comprehensive psychological, pedagogical, socio-economic and IT readiness for teaching activities. Besides, post-graduates have an access to fieldwork in government agencies, and domestic and international companies.

Career

The profound knowledge and research experience gained during the postgraduate course allow our alumni to conduct further research in criminal law and criminology, as well as comparative law. Alumni of the Institute of Law have an opportunity to successfully do the analytical work in government entities, including federal ones (the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation etc.), in Prosecutor General’s Office, Investigative Committee, in large law offices, international organizations, as well as continue scientific and educational activities both at Russian and foreign universities.
