About the profession
Physiology is an experimental science that represents a natural science discipline. It studies vital functions of the body and its individual systems. Physiology aims to disclose mechanisms for the regulation of physiological functions of the body and its interaction with the environment. In addition to general physiology, the programme includes the following subjects: Adaptation of the organism to altered environmental conditions, Biorhythmology, Clinical physiology.
The mastery of these areas contributes to the training of a specialist, who can perform both pedagogical and scientific activities, as well as solve theoretical and applied problems for practical healthcare, recreational medicine, sports medicine, school medicine, psychophysiology. During the training, a physiologist develops the following: the ability to critically analyze and evaluate modern scientific achievements in solving research and practical problems, including in interdisciplinary areas; readiness to participate in the work of Russian and international research teams using modern research methods and information-communication technologies.
Postgraduate training on the specialization "Physiology" lasts 4 years. Training is organized and conducted by a research advisor from among the professors of the department.
During the training, the theoretical, methodological foundations necessary for scientific, pedagogical and professional activities of a postgraduate student are mastered and include: attending lectures, participating in class activities, independent work, preparing an abstract, an analytical note, a scientific report, publications that result in the completion of a thesis. At the end of postgraduate training, the students undergo the final state attestation, upon results of which a national certificate is issued.
Upon completion of the thesis, it can be submitted for defense to the Thesis Committee for obtaining a degree of PhD/Doctor of Science.
At the department, postgraduate students study the theory and practice of experimental work on animals, methods of non-invasive functional testing on a person, learn to work with psychological questionnaires and other materials.
Postgraduate students have the opportunity to learn how to work on instruments and equipment that are available at the Department of Normal Physiology and to conduct independent research on the developed programs in accordance with their interests and the chosen research topic.
A postgraduate student has the right to give classes to students, applying in practice the knowledge and technologies obtained in other departments (philosophy, psychology, etc.).
A postgraduate student is given access to the information resources available in the institution, including national and international databases.
A postgraduate student masters modern methods of statistical processing of the results obtained. Based on the materials of scientific research, a postgraduate student summarizes the findings, prepares scientific publications in major-specific scientific journals under the guidance of experienced research advisors and participates in national and international scientific conferences. In addition, a postgraduate student evaluates the results of independent scientific research during his/her participation in major-specific scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.) and academic mobility programs.
The stages of career growth of a PhD graduate of the Department of Normal Physiology cover the following qualification categories:
In the sphere of scientific activity: PhD in Science, Doctor of Science, Corresponding Member, full member of major-specific academies of sciences, member of national and international academies of sciences. During postgraduate training, the students have the opportunity to receive presidential and government scholarships and grants from various national and international funds. Execution of national and international patents.
In the sphere of teaching activities: assistant, associate professor, professor of the department, member of national and international academies of sciences.
Subject to the successful work and the achievement of important results, the students can receive honors, prizes and awards at the national and international levels.
